Meet Brad Fitzgerald, one of the Directors of Clements Fitzgerald Lawyers.
Brad predominantly practises in criminal defence, health and disability, and regulatory law. Brad maintains a broad practice but has particular experience in matters relating to serious crime, mental health defences, professional discipline, guardianship and mental health law.
Prior to co-founding Clements Fitzgerald Lawyers, Brad practised as General Counsel at the Legal Services Commission, and at times acted as the Legal Services Commissioner. Additionally, Brad has been a practising lawyer in private practice and as a senior leader in the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist within Queensland Health. Brad’s diverse background contributes significantly to his ability to offer comprehensive and strategic legal counsel.
Brad has a compassionate approach to client interactions and he believes in building strong relationships with his clients, ensuring they feel supported and understood throughout their legal journey.
Brad is deeply invested in mentoring and teaching the next generation of lawyers. He is a sessional academic with Griffith Law School, where he co-ordinates and lectures the Mental Health Law unit.
Brad is passionate about the community. He is involved in several not-for-profit organisations as a volunteer and as a board director where he contributes his legal acumen to support and uplift communities.

Before co-founding Clements Fitzgerald Lawyers, Brent's career included a pivotal role at the Legal Services Commission, where he led the Commission’s litigation team. Brent's skill in identifying and concentrating on the key elements of a case ensures focused and efficient case management. His prior experience in family and estate practice showcased his ability to offer effective and empathetic legal services. Brent's approach to each case is marked by deep understanding and sensitivity to client’s needs and legal aims.
Brent's academic background, featuring a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Queensland, provides him with a thorough understanding of both legal and commercial dimensions of a matter, enabling him to offer well-rounded solutions.
